Answer by s9t9eve
The personal blog, an on-going diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read by anyone but them. Blogs often become more than a way to just communicate; they become a way to reflect on life or works of art. Blogging can have a sentimental quality. Few personal blogs rise to fame and the mainstream, but some personal blogs quickly garner an extensive following.

Shut up right there. You’re busted pal! You didn’t read my entire blog yesterday!
I posted a blog yesterday that I think was funny and well written, but kind of lengthy. But I began to realize that about half of the people who were commenting on it didn’t read the whole thing or skimmed it.
Which is fine, it’s better than saying “nice tones” (the most generic stupid comment by the way on flickr.com, I chuckle every time I see it). However this time you cheaters missed the entire point in what I was writing about.
Quick rundown: The main purpose of the entire deal was to lie out an impossible hypothetical situation. In this case it was to pretend sleep never existed. I gave a pretend alternative to sleeping (eating the apple). Then I jumped back to the real world and ended with asking you what exactly could there be to like about sleep other than just “needing” it because you’ll die without it.
Half the comments were about sleep patterns, how to cheat sleep, how much you love sleep, etc. But the entire point was look beyond that stupid shit and lay out benefits if none of that mattered in theory.
Anyway, I really don’t care. Slightly irritating to realize most didn’t take in the whole thing because the comments didn’t jive with what I wrote. I think I’d rather get “nice tones” than a comment based on what I wrote but only reading half of it. At least nice tones is dead on because viewing the pic takes 1 second.
But it got me to thinking about what I’m writing, and how I’m spending my time not only on here, but in general. Is flickr a place to write extensive blogs about my theories of life? I’ve always used it as such. If I post a pic without writing people FM me and either make fun of me or wonder if I’m okay. Haha.
But after the deal yesterday, I think maybe I should concentrate more of this whole writing deal to maybe a book or a real blog where people actually go to read. Most people on flickr zoom around so fast on lightspeed. I am always hearing how they watch to “catch up” and are always apologizing for lack of comments. If you do this by the way? Stop. That doesn’t sound like fun and that’s all this is supposed to be: fun.
So anyway what do you think? Should I take this shit to a different medium? Just keep my writing shorter? (you know me, that’s impossible). Or maybe I should just shut the fuck up?

The Bicycle Builders (and I added Facebook Comments to the blog)

In reverse order of the titles, some of you might notice that I have added Facebook Comments over at my blog at www.stuckincustoms.com/2009/02/23/the-bicycle-builders-an…, so now you can leave comments with the old style or the new style. I left both systems in place since there are so many good previous comments, and they are not really convertible. The New Facebook comments are pretty cool because they re-use your Facebook info, and it extends that community and network of friends, since all these networks come together nowadays. It took a tiny bit of coding to set myself up as a Facebook Developer, but it wasn’t so tough (I knew that major in Computer Science would come in handy some day!).
There is a very nice community of people that come here to the site! You all are very nice and helpful… you give excellent comments, help one another out, give me advice, and drop all kinds of cool info bombs on the crowd. Thanks for that! I hope this Facebook comment thing can help more people to join the fun.
Anyway, to the photo for the day. This is not the usual, but it was such a cool slice of life, I could not pass it up! I was walking through the streets of Malacca in southern Malaysia, and building after building have all sorts of industry spilling out of them. Many of them are just deep garages where people have holed up to perfect one craft or another. This one was full of thousands of little bicycle parts. I stood out front for a while, watching all of them slowly convert the metallic entropy into bicycles…
